Key Terms
Relying Service - The Relying Service is the back-end service that uses ID&V. It has access to all API requests and output. A Relying Service application must use a GIPS-RS API keys.
User Agent - The User Agent is the front-end application running on the device in the hands of the end user. For security reasons, User Agent API is limited to certain requests and service output. A User Agent application shall use a GIPS-UA API key. For more information about GIPS-UA and GIPS-RS API keys, refer to the corresponding section of the FAQ.
Level Of Assurance (LOA) - Measures the confidence in the identity resulting from the verification process that has been performed on all evidence provided by the user.
Evidence - A piece of information in the form of a document, portrait image, or declaration that users provide to support their identity claims. Multiple evidences verified correctly contribute to a higher identity Level of Assurance.
Evidence Status - The overall result of the verification process of an evidence
Evidence Score - Measures the level of confidence the service for a successful verification based on the different checks that have been performed.
Indicator - During verification of an evidence, the ID proofing service performs several checks including:
- Examining the expiration date of a document
- Performing document classification
- Comparing the consistency between the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) and the Visual Inspection Zone (VIZ)
- Comparing the consistency of the information against the issuer’s record in its database
- Comparing User's Photo ID portrait with submitted selfie
Note: this is not an exhaustive list as many other checks are performed.
The indicators are the detailed results of all those unitary checks that contribute to the scoring of the evidence and are reserved to the Relying Service.
Error code - in case of failures, the ID service raises error codes to help the Relying Service and end-user understand why it failed and take remedial actions. Error Code are made available to both Relying Service and User Agent.
